Portrait is the design studio of Courtney Gooch and Rory Simms. We create identities for people and places.

Courtney Gooch designs identities, books, environmental graphics, packaging, and websites. Her clients include Planned Parenthood, the High Line, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Prior to forming Portrait, she held roles as Associate Partner at Pentagram New York, and as Art Director at Target in Minneapolis. Courtney is an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts, where she teaches Branding and Typography III & IV. She has served on juries for Pratt Institute and RPI, and holds a BFA in Communication Design from Carnegie Mellon University.

Rory Simms is a multidisciplinary designer from Dublin, Ireland. Prior to forming Portrait, Rory was an Associate Partner at the New York office of Pentagram. Rory is a graduate of Visual Communication Design program at IADT Dún Laoghaire, and of the Type@Cooper Extended program at The Cooper Union in New York. Rory teaches in the BFA Design program at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
